My Recipe Box - Part 3: Ginger Baked Pears

This recipe is a real crowd pleaser at our dinner parties. Hubby and I first tried it at a friend's house, and he was kind enough to give us the recipe. I've passed it on myself a few times to friends, and I'm sure there are a few more who would like it!

And, you know, you can almost consider it healthy - seeing that there's fruit in there and all!

Here's the recipe:

4 large pears
300ml/1 1/4 cups whipping cream
1/4 cup caster sugar
1/2 tspn vanilla essence
1/4 tspn ground cinnamon
Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
1 tspn grated fresh root ginger

1. Preheat the oven to 190 degrees celsius. Lightly butter a large, shallow baking dish.
2. Peel the pears, cut in half lengthways and remove the cores. Arrange, cut-sides down, in a single layer in the baking dish.
3. Mix together the cream, sugar, vanilla essence, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger and pour over the pears.
4. Bake for 30-35 mins, basting from time to time, until the pears are tender and browned on top and the cream is thick and bubbly. Cool slightly before serving.

Then sit back, and wait for the compliments!

Bon appetite!
