Bloggers Without Makeup Day

Today is the day. Today we get to unite and show everyone our true selves!

Thank you to all of the bloggers and tweeps out there who took this idea on board and decided to join me in going makeup free for a day.

I can't tell you how liberating this has been for me. Cate Bolt left a comment on my post the other day about shaving her head and feeling the same sort of liberation. It feels right to do this, and I'm so glad there are so many who want to get involved. What a great example we will be to our kids, and also to young girls who think they have to look like a magazine cover all the time. (You DON'T ladies! You are gorgeous as you are!)

I have been overwhelmed with the response to this initiative. I figured a few might join in (maybe out of sympathy for me!)...but when I started turning on Twitter and reading my comments on my blog, I realised that this was something many of you wanted to do. And I've seen people then start to worry about going through with it, then put up their pic on Twitter (early - it started to feel like Christmas Eve last night on Twitter, with many unable to wait to open their pressies!) and become so excited at having had the chance to just let go and be themselves... Incredible.

Ok, so firstly...if you're not a blogger - don't despair. You can still get involved. If you're on Twitter, you can change your profile pic for today, or tweet a link to Twitpic or something similar with your pic, and attach the trending topic to your tweet, #BloggersWithoutMakeup. Then everyone can click on the topic and see who else is doing the same!

If you're not on Twitter, and not a blogger, you can actually attach a pic in the comments below. There's a little button thingy down there to help you do that. We'd love to see your pic!

If you're a blogger, then I've attached a lovely little Linky Tools list below. Just copy a link to your blog post (not just the homepage, the actual post) for Bloggers Without Makeup Day and add the link below. Don't forget to include your Blog Name and maybe your name! Whatever you like. That way, everyone can take a look at your makeup free shot. I'll be viewing and commenting on every single one. I can't wait!!!

Ok - GO FOR IT! And once again, thanks for getting involved. You're doing a really great thing here today. Every bit counts.

You are all amazing. A-MA-ZING!

PS - Hot or Not won't be posted today as per usual. I figured today's post could be our Friday fun for this week!

Jodie, I just wanted to let you know something. I was chatting about your idea last night too my lovely husband, explaining how it was such a simple idea that had literally swept like wild fire through our blogging and twittering world. He had a look even! And then he made the comment "Women really do amazing creative stuff, don't they?" YOU DO JODIE! I am not sure I have ever seen a simple and true concept spread so well. Kudos to you sweet girl. xx

I look forward to following along with your blog- I am new here but read about your initiative and wanted to join in! Will come back to read and check out the other blogs after I have run our errands!

I am a mum to a little boy- and as we say in Japan (where I live), a sempai mama is great (sempai means "elder" I guess) so I can`t wait to see what you do with your little boys- I will know where to come for advice :-)

Kelly Sheehy said...

Hi! I'm new here too, I found out about your meme through Wanderlust. Thank you so much for hosting this, and for allowing women to express themselves and show their natural beauty. It's such a wonderful idea, I am so glad that you took the initiative to do this!

MegsyJ said...

Oh my gosh, look at all those links! I looked at them all this morning, then went to the shops, came back and there are stacks more!! Can't wait to see them all during the afternoon - it's amazing how unique every single post is.

Well done Jodie - I can't say it enough, you're just awesome. xx

Kristin said...

Wow, look at all your links! And I have some of my peeps that have done it and haven't linked up. You really started something!

Jodie, I just have a few minutes spare and I wanted to say how freakin AMAZING you are for making this happen ... I am dying to look at all these fab blogs and im scared at the same time, that my blog roll is going to get out of control & I'll never have time to keep up with everyone !!

You look gorg in your photo ! are you gonna go makeupless more often?

TheRealSydney said...

Rub my face in it Meagan ... this is only one I have had a chance to look at today and I'm itching ... tonight I'm buying a bottle of pinot, and I am devoting my night to looking at every single one !

Can't wait !

Kristin said...

Seriously what a great idea! Thank you so much for this.

70 links!! Wow. I'm actually quite proud to be a part of this, especially considering the whole nasty body image debate that happened at MamaMia. This is refreshing. Thanks so much Jodie!

hi I just happened to put a photo of myself on my blog for the first time today as I have never felt I wanted to before then came across your blog and this post WOW it's so fabulous to see you all joining in such a great thing. I used to wear makeup to work and going out so I had it on all the time basically but now haven't worn makeup for years and feel so liberated for it thank you for this, it's wonderful

Marika utomjording(extraterrestre, alien) said...

Scrivi qui il tuo commento... Oh dear I made I mess again...I'm the 88 linker and it's not going to my post...and I cannot change it... help!!!

Jodie at Mummy Mayhem said...

You are so welcome Linda. As you can probably see fro the comments and post, many are feeling the same way. Sometimes, we just have to take a bit of a leap and go for it! And why not? Life is too short to worry about the little things.

Jodie at Mummy Mayhem said...

Thanks TRS! I'm thinking the glam shot has to go. That's not really "me". The one on my homepage 'about me' is more 'me'. I only have a little lippy on there!

It's been great. I love that so many people have taken this on and feeling so liberated by it. Brilliant!

Thanks again for being involved! xxx

Naomi said...

Am trying to get through everyone... but oh my, it keeps growing! Jodie, you are amazing!

katiegirl said...

Just wanted to say that I've thoroughly enjoyed your Bloggers Without Makeup idea.

Everyone looks absolutely beatiful to me. We can see beauty in others, I just wonder why we have so much trouble seeing it in ourselves...

You've started quite the movement here today! Great idea, lovely post, you sold me. CHEERS!

Amanda - Busy Brissy Mum said...

Thanks for the encouragment to do this. I have joined in but I don't think my link worked. It told me that Busy Brissy Mum doesn't exist...ooops!! Probably my computer skills was the problem there. You can find me at www.busybrissymum.blogspot.com

Amy McKie said...

Love the concept! I fully support, though found out about it too late. If I get a chance after work I'll take a pic and put up a post on my blog, but for now I'll just say that (as is the norm for me) I am make-up less :) I definitely don't think it is necessary, I feel perfectly beautiful without!

tmena said...

Just lovely.

Michelle Fabio said...

I very rarely wear makeup so it was easy to find an archived post of me without any of the goop; for good measure there's another post linked IN that post with more photos of me without makeup :D Great idea!

P.S. I'm #136: Afternoon in the Giardino (from my blog Bleeding Espresso) on the Linky.

Holy crap...I didn't get round to looking at all the blogs last night, cause looking at 80 something was going to require a longer attention span than I actually have. Now there's 150 of them. Curses to you for publicising your idea so well, Jodie. You look great, by the way.

Jodie at Mummy Mayhem said...

Thanks to everyone for all the lovely comments and for getting involved with Bloggers Without Makeup Day!

I am slowly, but surely, getting through all the blogs. I hope to do some more reading later today and tonight (Sat), because this morning I (hesitantly) go in to Soccer Mum mode!

Great stuff everyone. So glad you all took this on!

Jodie, this was an awesome project and I have enjoyed participating in it, visiting some other blogs and meeting some neat bloggers in the process. And to you, the blogger who started it, I just want to say that with makeup or without, you are a beautiful woman and mother!

Wonderful! I learned about this through Mel at Stirrup Queens -- it happened to intersect with a number of things going on with image for me this week -- and in many ways really transformative -- thank you! I'll be back to just look around and get to know your blog -- I'm often traveling the same bloggy paths so its good to branch out!
