Admittedly, I very, very rarely have the opportunity (or time!) to head out for a manicure, pedicure or waxing. In fact, I once went un-waxed for about 10 years. (Don't worry - I shaved. I wasn't walking around looking like an escapee from the gorilla enclosure at the local zoo.) It was just too hard with little ones. "Oh, look, Mummy! HOT WAX!" Yikes.
A couple of weeks ago, I was invited by a lovely lady called Kat who invited me and some other bloggers to the launch of her new website, Deals for Mum which, in fact, just launched TODAY where you'll find all sorts of great deals for salons, restaurants, kids' activities venues, children's products etc.
For the launch, I headed over to a salon in Paddington called the YM Salon (formerly known as Yummy Mummy Salon) for a manicure. Woo hoo! What a treat.
To be honest, on the day, it was pouring with rain the morning of my visit, and I was convinced it would take FOREVER to get there, and it did cross my mind that once there how on earth would I find parking in Paddington of all places? (Nightmare!) Well, what a pleasant surprise when I got there in no time at all AND because the salon's in a residential area of Paddington (Elizabeth Street) parking was easy-peasy - and no time limits either.

Firstly, I was keen to get a little tour of the place. Not only is it gorgeously presented, it's like a one-stop shop, people! When I had my 40th birthday party last year, I had to go to no less than four different places to have my hair, nails, waxing and spray tan done. At YM Salon, you can get all of that done and more. It also has its own private keratin bar (for hair straightening). AND...get this...it has a creche! Yup - you can book in your little one to have a play in a well-stocked playroom with supervision whilst you laze back and enjoy that full body massage. Nice! I was really, truly impressed with the place. It would be perfect for a bridal party or fun girls get together. You could all get pampered then head to one of the nearby restaurants looking all glowy and fabulous.
Here's me enjoying my manicure:
|Look at me will you? Being pampered AND drinking tea. *sigh*|
The finished product...
|Note to self: MOISTURISE, Jodie. Please.|
Kat had also organised some of the most delicious cupcakes I have EVER tasted for our pleasure. They were from Ghermez Cupcakes. I ate two. One of the mini cupcakes at the salon (chocolate mousse - YUM) and one of these pictured below, which I ate in my car whilst waiting for Hubby. (I had briefly entertained the idea of giving it to Hubby, but decided it was too good to pass up. Good call.)

Ever since, I've kind of craved them....so I'm thinking a little trip to my nearest store to pick up a dozen might not be bad idea. ;)
I didn't go home empty handed either. I got a gorgeous little goody bag, and in it was a product that a friend of mine had told me about a month ago (and highly recommended) that I hadn't got around to ordering for myself yet, and that's the Contigo Swish drink bottle. Mine is in blue like this one...
To drink from it, you hold down the white button you can see at the front, which opens the top to drink from. However, you can also lock it so that the button can't be pressed down, hence...no accidental spillage. I've been using mine daily ever since. I love that it can be in my handbag and I don't have to worry about it leaking, which so many of the other bottles on the market do. Also - it has a rubber bottom so it doesn't slip around on the benchtop when I put it down.
Check out a range of the bottles (as well as other products) at bonitobaby.com.au. You can get them for kids and adults alike.
Now, still on all things pampering and indulgent...did you get what you wanted for Mother's Day this year? If not, you might want to treat yourself.
I was sent some products from Endota Spa's organic range. Check them out:
I love the foot cream (native mint & desert lime). Smells heavenly. The hand cream - lavender & alpine pepper - is also delicious. Also in the pack was a lilly pilly body moisturiser. To be honest, when I first put it on, I thought it felt too drying or something, and couldn't imagine it making my skin feel moisturised. But as soon as it had settled in to my skin, it felt great and not greasy at all, which is a big bonus. My only complaint is that both the hand cream & foot cream could do with being a little larger (they're both only 20mls). Endota Spa is having a special at the moment with 20% off their skincare range. Check it out. I LOVE my grey tote bag too.
Now the following products you might want to use before you get your manicure and use your hand cream. ;)
I was also recently sent a new 'just add water' cleaning product called JAWS.
You get a bottle and a cartridge filled with the cleaning product. You pop the cartridge in to your bottle, add water, shake it up and VOILA - you have yourself a cleaning product ready to use! (Then you can refill and save!)
I tested the Multi-Purpose cleaner in my bathroom over the last few weeks, and truly....the bathroom basin and bath looked fabulous afterwards! It's non-toxic, which is important to me (I only use heavy duty bleach etc in the toilet and to mop the bathroom floor). I reckon I'll try out the other products on offer from the range as well. You can pick them up at Woolies and other specialty stores around Oz.
At the bloggers conference I attended recently, we got a great goody bag with a bunch of stuff in it, including these Kleenex Viva cleaning products:
Now, I already use the Viva paper towels, because they're really absorbent. But I hadn't tried the other products. They were all really good actually, but my absolute FAVE by far was the Viva Stainless Steel Wipes. Oh, my Lord. The outside of my oven has never looked better, and it was so easy and quick to clean using the wipes! I was really impressed. Now if Viva would just make wipes to clean the inside of my oven, I'd be one happy gal. ;)
Ok...time for the kids....
Well, to be honest, you just can't go wrong in this house where Lego and Nintendo DS games are involved. Ninjago The Videogame is Lego's latest creation and, of course, it's a big hit in our house. Santa was kind enough to give the boys some Ninjago Lego figurine type thingys (yeah I'm technical with this stuff), and so when the game came out...seventh. heaven. The 7yo is the biggest fan. I could rabbit on about the game itself, but really....do you care? Just buy it. You can't go wrong.
Also from Lego...we were kindly invited to attend the launch of Lego's new space-themed Lego during the last school holidays. The boys are busting for some of it...
If the truth be known, whilst I often declare Lego the bane of my life (have you ever stepped on a piece? Ouch!) it's truly wonderful to keep the kids amused. The 9yo is so in to it, he now builds his own creations and has come up with some really great pieces. Hours of entertainment right there.
Ok now, back to cleaning for my last product: Bosisto's EucoFresh Laundry Powder.
I've recently gone through two boxes (it took me a while!) and I have to say I was impressed. Just before receiving the Bosisto's laundry powder, I'd had issues with my clothes not smelling as clean and fresh as they should. I figured it had something to do with the washing machine, but actually, it must have been the washing powder, because the clothes come out smelling so clean with Bosisto's powder. I will say I don't think it made my whites any brighter or anything like that, but I think in order to get extra whiteness there has to be a bunch of extra chemicals added to laundry powders, and as I mentioned above, I tend to try and stick with the more natural products. The fact that Bosisto's powder is 100% biodegradable and low allergenic is a huge bonus. UPDATE: It's exclusive to It can be found in Woolies and selected stores and retails for about $8.99, but you can get it for as low as $5.99 on special. ;)
GIVEAWAY TIME! If you'd like to try one for yourself, I have SIX BOXES of the laundry powder to give away! If you're an Oz resident, just leave a comment below by this Thursday evening (8pm AEST), and I'll announce the winners this Friday morning (assuming Blogger doesn't die again like it did last week).
Make sure you look out for Bosisto's Lavender and Tea Tree Oil sprays as well. I use them ALL. THE. TIME. When I accidentally left some old towels in the machine too long, it started to have that damp smell. I sprayed the tea tree oil in and left it for an hour or so and it was perfect afterwards. I use the sprays in the bathroom and kitchen bins, around the house as an air freshener, and on the beds and dog's mattress. You can use the tea tree oil spray in smelly shoes too!
Ok - I'm outta here. Hope you'll enter my giveaway. I think it will be my last one for a while. ;)
